This guide walks you through creating an NBX account from scratch - from downloading the app to logging in for the first time.
Download the app
Step 1: Get the NBX app
Search for NBX in the Google Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS) and tap Install. The app is free.
Create your account
Step 2: Open the app and tap Sign Up
Open NBX. On the login screen, tap Sign Up at the top. You can sign up with Google, Apple, Vipps, or your email address.
Step 3: Accept the terms and choose your sign-up method
Check the box to confirm you accept NBX's Terms of Service and that you're 18 or older. If you have a referral code, tap Have a referral code? to enter it. Then choose how you want to sign up.
Step 4: Verify your email
If you signed up with email, NBX will send a verification link to your inbox. Tap Check verification once you've clicked the link in the email.
Step 5: Click the link in your email
Open your email and click the verification link from NBX. It looks like the one below. If you don't see it, check your spam folder.
Step 6: Email verified
Once the link is clicked, you'll see a confirmation screen. Tap Go to Login to continue.
Complete your profile
Before you can trade, NBX needs to verify your identity. This is a legal requirement for all regulated exchanges. It takes a few minutes.
Step 7: Enter your personal details
Fill in your full name exactly as it appears on your ID, along with your gender, nationality, date of birth, address, and phone number. Make sure everything matches your official documents.
Note: If your Taxpayer Identification Number is different from your Personal Identification Number, check the box and enter it separately.
Step 8: Add your work status
Select your occupation, annual income range, company name, and job title. You'll also be asked whether you or a close family member is a Politically Exposed Person (PEP). For most people, the answer is No.
Step 9: Clarify your source of funds
Select where the money you'll be depositing comes from - salary, savings, investments, etc. This is a standard AML (anti-money laundering) requirement.
Step 10: Select your intended use
Choose what you plan to use NBX for - trading, investing, custody, etc. You can select multiple options.
Step 11: Verify your identity with BankID
As a Norwegian resident, you can verify your identity using BankID. Tap Verify with BankID and follow the steps in your banking app.
If you're not a Norwegian resident, you'll be prompted to upload a passport or national ID instead.
Step 12: Verification complete
Once BankID confirms your identity, you'll see a green success banner. NBX will then review your application - this usually takes a short time.
Set up two-factor authentication (2FA)
2FA adds a second layer of security to your account. Every time you log in, you'll need to enter a code from your phone in addition to your password.
Step 13: Choose your 2FA method
NBX supports two options:
- SMS - a one-time code is sent to your phone number each time you log in.
- Authenticator App - an app on your phone generates a new code every 30 seconds. More secure, and works without mobile signal.
Note: To access all services on the NBX platform, you must enable app-based 2FA.
Step 14: Install an authenticator app
If you don't have one already, download an authenticator app. NBX recommends Google Authenticator, but any TOTP-compatible app works - including Authy, Microsoft Authenticator, or Proton Pass. Once it's installed, tap Next.
Step 15: Copy your secret key and enter the verification code
NBX will show you a secret key. Copy it using the Copy button, then open your authenticator app and add a new entry by pasting the key. The app will start generating 6-digit codes. Enter the current code in the 2-factor verification code field and tap Submit.
Step 16: Add the key in your authenticator app
In your authenticator app, create a new entry. Paste the secret key you copied from NBX into the Secret field, and give it a name you'll recognise (e.g. "NBX"). Save it.
Step 17: Save your recovery code
Once 2FA is enabled, NBX gives you a backup recovery code. Save this somewhere safe - you'll need it if you ever lose access to your phone. You can also download it as a text file. Tap Done.

Step 18: Account under review
After completing all steps, your account will show as verification pending. NBX reviews applications manually. You'll get an email once your account is approved and fully active.
Step 19: Welcome to NBX
Once approved, you'll have full access to your account. You can now deposit funds, buy crypto, and explore the markets.
