Frequently asked questions about redeeming fGLD (gold) and fSLVR (silver) tokens purchased on NBX and shipping physical metal to Norway.
About the Tokens
What is fGLD and fSLVR?
fGLD and fSLVR are commodity tokens issued by FI finest Investments GmbH (Germany). Each fGLD token represents 1g of physical gold. Each fSLVR token represents a 100g silver bar. The metal is stored at one of pro aurum's vault locations in Germany. They are not financial instruments or securities — they are digital proof of ownership of physically allocated metal.
Where is my metal stored?
At one of pro aurum's vault locations in Germany. pro aurum GmbH is one of Europe's largest precious metals dealers and operates as the official custodian for Finest Investments. The exact location is confirmed by pro aurum when you initiate a redemption.
What metal will I receive when I redeem?
- fGLD: Gold slab bars, 999.9/1000 purity, 1g per token, from LBMA-certified manufacturers such as Valcambi or Heraeus
- fSLVR: Silver bars, 100g per token (e.g. Heraeus Feinsilber 999.9, LBMA Good Delivery standard)
Tokens are whole units — you cannot redeem fractions. 1 fGLD = 1g gold, 1 fSLVR = 100g silver bar.
Is my metal allocated to me specifically?
Yes. The tokens represent allocated physical metal, not a pooled or paper claim.
The Redemption Process
How do I start a redemption?
Email redeem@finest.investments with your name, account email, and the number of whole tokens you want to redeem. Finest's role is to redeem the tokens and unlock the metal at pro aurum — they are not involved in shipping.
Who do I contact for the actual shipping?
Once Finest has processed your request, you contact pro aurum directly at trading@proaurum.de. They confirm which vault location your metal is ready at and give you the exact pickup address for FedEx.
How long does the full process take?
Finest typically processes redemption requests within several business days. FedEx Regional Economy to Norway then takes approximately 3–5 business days. Allow up to two weeks in total to be safe, though it is often faster.
Is there a minimum amount I can redeem?
The minimum is 1 token — 1 fGLD gives you 1g of gold, 1 fSLVR gives you a 100g silver bar. Tokens are whole units only (1, 2, 3, etc.), so you cannot redeem fractions. Redeeming more tokens in one order saves on shipping per gram.
Do I need to be KYC verified to redeem?
Yes. Only users who have completed identity verification on finest.investments can redeem tokens. If you purchased through NBX and have not completed KYC on Finest's platform yet, do this before submitting a redemption request.
Is there a fee to redeem?
No. Redemption itself is free. You pay only for FedEx shipping and Norwegian import VAT.
Can Finest refuse my redemption request?
Yes. Finest reserves the right to refuse redemption if there is suspicion of fraudulent activity or violations of applicable law.
FedEx Shipping
Do I need a FedEx account to book shipping?
You can book on fedex.com with or without an account. Creating a free personal account makes it easier to manage and track shipments.
Which FedEx service should I use for Norway?
FedEx Regional Economy is the standard option for Norway and typically the most cost-effective. A confirmed shipment from Munich to Oslo via this service took approximately 4 business days including a brief customs review.
Do I need to fill in customs forms or prepare paperwork?
You do not need to prepare a pro forma invoice — FedEx generates it automatically. However, when booking on fedex.com you will be asked to enter commodity information for the shipment. Use these codes:
- Gold: HS 7108.13.00 — description e.g. "1G GOLD"
- Silver: HS 7106.91.00 — description e.g. "100G SILVER BAR"
What do I do with the PDF shipping label?
Email it to pro aurum at trading@proaurum.de. They arrange the FedEx pickup from their branch.
How much does shipping cost?
Approximately 300–500 NOK for FedEx Regional Economy (standard) and 800–1,100 NOK for express. The exact price depends on weight, box dimensions, and current FedEx rates. Note that FedEx bills on dimensional weight, not actual metal weight, so the billed weight is often higher than the physical weight of the metal.
Can I track my shipment?
Yes. You receive a tracking number when you book. Track in real time at fedex.com.
What if my package is held at customs?
A brief regulatory review by Norwegian Customs is normal for precious metals shipments. In a confirmed shipment, a one-day hold at Lillestrøm cleared the same day with no action required from the recipient. FedEx handles communication with customs on your behalf.
What if something goes wrong during shipping?
FedEx insures the shipment. Contact FedEx customer service with your tracking number if there is a delivery issue.
What should I do when the package arrives?
Give the outer packaging a quick look for any obvious damage or tampering before signing — that's all. Pro aurum includes the total transport weight (including packaging) in their dispatch notification, so you can easily verify it on a scale without opening anything. Shipments are packed under camera surveillance and arrive without issue in practice. For logistics questions: logistik@proaurum.de.
Can I pick up the metal in person instead of shipping?
Yes. Physical pickup is available at pro aurum branches in Germany. The process is the same — email redeem@finest.investments to start. Finest will send you a release form (Auslieferungsantrag) to fill in and sign. Once processed, contact pro aurum by email to book an appointment at your preferred branch before travelling. For customers in Norway, FedEx home delivery is the more practical option.
Import Costs (Norway)
Will I pay customs duty (toll) when my shipment arrives in Norway?
No. The customs duty rate is 0% for both gold (HS 7108) and silver (HS 7106).
Will I pay VAT (MVA) on import?
Yes. Norwegian VAT of 25% applies to both gold and silver at import, calculated on the customs value (metal value + freight + insurance).
How does the VAT payment work in practice?
FedEx pays the VAT to Norwegian Customs on your behalf and then invoices you for it, plus a disbursement fee:
| VAT amount | FedEx disbursement fee |
|---|---|
| Up to 582 NOK | 30% of VAT, minimum 139.50 NOK |
| 582–6,975 NOK | Flat 174.50 NOK |
| Over 6,975 NOK | 2.5% of VAT |
For a 100g silver bar, the VAT typically falls in the first bracket and the 139.50 NOK minimum fee almost always applies.
What are the HS codes used for customs?
- Gold: 7108.13.00
- Silver: 7106.91.00
What counts as the taxable customs value?
The metal value (at the time of shipment) plus freight costs plus insurance. FedEx calculates this when generating the customs declaration.
Tax When You Sell
How is profit from selling physical gold or silver taxed in Norway?
Gains are taxed as capital gains (kapitalgevinst) at 22% (2024/2025 rate). Losses are tax-deductible.
What is my cost basis?
The purchase price of the tokens plus all import costs — VAT paid on import and the FedEx disbursement fee. Keep documentation of everything.
Do I need to report this to Skatteetaten?
Yes. Any gain or loss from selling physical gold or silver must be reported in your tax return. Skatteetaten does not receive automatic reporting from precious metals dealers the way they do from banks or brokers, so it is your responsibility to report it correctly.
Is there VAT when I sell the metal later in Norway?
If you sell to a private buyer in Norway, no VAT applies. If you sell to a dealer, the dealer's VAT rules apply. Consult a tax adviser for your specific situation.
